SCHOOL'S CURRICULUM SPARKS RACIAL DISTURBANCE
Seven arrests and 10 suspensions were made in a Pittsburgh
high-school riot involving at least 50-60 students at Carrick High
School.
Racial tensions that began over a student's swastika tattoo
grew later in the morning (6/4) as a result of an "African-American
heritage assembly" in which black students were encouraged to
participate in the exclusion of white students.
Racial bantering continued after the assembly in the halls and
during lunch, when the dozens of fights broke out. Fighting spread
to yards of nearby homes, where residents described the incident as
involving hundreds of students.
The official school-district press statement made no mention
of racial tensions as a cause of the riot, but students did.
How stupid can a big-city public school system be as to have
assemblies encouraging racial division in a school system where
racial disturbances have happened for two decades?
