LR> Hmmm.... I raed somewhere, that in one of the major prisons,
LR> Folsom or San Quentin, the return rate of prisoners was well over
LR> 60% until they began teaching them about computers. The return

LR> (of course you have to wonder how many of them became hackers)
Ran into at least one person in this state who had learned to use computers
in prison, also.
If one realizes that the bulk of those incarcerated are there because of
their drug addiction (and that also includes their addiction to beverage
alcohol which is a sedative/hypnotic drug) then we also have to understand
that clean and sober, they are capable of performing great amounts of work.
And that they are sometimes very intelligent folks who gave their not so
intelligent school teachers and local authorities all kinds of problems.
My understanding is that very bright young folks can get an entry level job
in Microsoft or some other computer firm these days and earn millions.
Much better than trying to steal that amount.
And much more accepted by the community at large.
Since we now have a lack of home boys and girls for the technical jobs that
are being filled by young people from other civilized nations who have much
better schools than we do, I suggest that we revamp our prison system as soon
as we can, placing the intractable hard core prisoner who is a psychopath in
one type of facility, and the kid who has been busted over drugs in another
type.
AND THAT WE HIRE CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY COUNSELORS TO WORK WITH THE ADDICTS!!!
Then we might see an end to the pressure to build more and more prisons which
should not be needed at all.
Oh yes, stop drugging the school kids for administrative convenience.
