I am not sure what you mean by that. If you mean that it violates the principel
of universal connectivity, yes indeed, that it does. But then again, universal
connectivity has always been a wish rather than a fact. Already in the very
beginning we had two standards for 300 Bps; BELL and CCITT Only the 2400 Bps
V22 b standard was a worldwide standard. After that Fidionet had to deal again
with modem incompatibilities. And then came ISDN only nodes. They could not
connect to systems with analog modems. And then came IP. IP only nodes could
not connect to ISDN systems and systems with analog modems. Fdionet survived it
all.
The latest incompatibility hurdle is IPv6. IPv4 and IPv6 are incompatible
protocols. DS-Lite nodes can only make outgoing IPv4 calls. So the
incompatibility is only one way. Inconvenient, but Fidonet has survived
previous incompatibilities and it will survive this one as well.
