subject: Browser Security

From: "Geo"

With the release of IE7 I'm seeing all sorts of posts on the news sites
about IE7 being secure or firefox being secure and I thought it time to
once again remind folks of the problem.

The problem is not IE code or Firefox code. Both browsers are insecure not
because of bugs but as the result of a number of design flaws.

You cannot have a secure browser in todays world without breaking countless
websites that depend on the ability to run their untrusted code on your
computer. As long as you allow all these websites to run untrusted code on
your machine you cannot be secure.

Turn off activeX and Scripting and presto pretty much even old versions of
IE are secure. At least more secure than IE7 or firefox will ever be in
their default installs. Secure browsing is going to require the worlds
webmasters to rethink how their websites work.

Geo.
