Hi KAREN (of 2:252/171),
On , in a message to

How would much of this make any difference in the long run? Fidonet is not
a private club. Although a user would typically require entering a name
and a password to access a BBS and thus access Fidonet, there is nothing
from stopping anyone to "look around" and scrutinize Fidonet
messages and names.
Personally, I don't like what the site you mentioned has done. Although
the sysop at www2.vadvphp.com is a legit Fidonet sysop, I don't think he
should have made the contents of echomail available in a public manner
(even if he just seems to be doing it to demonstrate the new
Fidonet/Internet
software that allows the two worlds to merge.) He should have atleast had
a username/password frontend registration process before anyone could
"access" Fidonet. Perhaps that would even prevent the
web-crawler software that search engines use from accessing the message
bases. But maybe that would not even be a guarantee.
At the very least, send that sysop a message telling him about your
concern. I feel like doing the same.
Please don't religate to hiding in the background.
...August
