ymmv, but I find Java preferable to C for bigger, more complex programs,
especially if they involve databases or GUI interfaces. Swing suits me
fine, especially since I found the third party RiverLayout layout
manager, as does JDBC and the various E-mail handling packages. No, this
is not work-related stuff I'm talking about.
Smalltalk looks moderately interesting, though as I prefer strongly typed
languages to dynamically types ones and Java is a Smalltalk derivative, I
think I'm happy to stick with it.
