    A couple months ago, the national talk show "Left to Right" discussed 
school uniforms after Bill Clinton said he favored them.
    The conservative co-host called his old HS principal and asked his 
opinion on the air.  The now-retired principal said he saw uniforms as just 
the public schools desperation cry for anything that might convince the 
public the schools were safe and serious about discipline.
    Sorry, that's how a retired N.Y.C. principal saw it.
