Subsonic only means the bullet is subsonic.  The muzzle blast is not
actually quieter.  I thought the same thing before.  The
"quiteness", comes from less gas volume in the tube.  Which is a
different subject entirely.  The subsonic velocity is only part of the
equation.

Actually, more energy means that it will penetrate obstacles better
because it would retain more energy than a lower energy bullet.  There
have been cases with 147 Grain JHP's stopping on a arm or leg bone.
