Ok so today I reinstalled a W2K server. Of course after the reinstall I
fully patched the machine.

Later I realized it had IE5 which throws a bunch of errors when you visit
the microsoft or dell sites so I decided to upgrade it to IE6.

Go to www.microsoft.com/ie and they are pushing IE7 but I managed to find
the link to IE6. Now when you upgrade to IE6 what it does is download a
400K program which then looks at your machine and downloads only the
components you need to upgrade, it's not a full package in the initial
download.

So I let it run, it downloads 10mb of stuff, reboot and I'm running IE6. I
then ran a scan using shavlik to see what patches I need. It needed 8
different patches dating back to 2002. What the hell is wrong with
Microsoft? The stupid thing downloads components, it can't download the
current versions? Can't they do anything right the first time or must we
always do it twice?

I mean come on, they are pushing IE7 now, isn't it time to remove all the
old IE6 crap and just make the fully patched version available now?

Geo.
