In the beginning there was the Trekkie. The Trekkie went Whole Hawg
& made a Total Damn Fool out'n his/herself (wearing Spock ears to
work, giving everybody who'd watch [& some who wouldn't] the Vulcan
"high sign," etc.) & just in general doing a good job of giving all
Trek fans a bad name.  The Media {tm} (then as now exploiters of the
free cheap shot) jumped on them like white on rice, & some of us who
*did* love the show but were embarrassed by the antic frantics of
the -kies coined the term *-ker* as a means of differentiation, &
thus was the One True & Sensible Fan (Sorry, Zorch. ) born.
