On or about 09-06-09 18:42, Ardith Hinton allegedly uttered "Physio...
 2A." to
James Bradley:

 JB> [re deep breathing]
JB> Us drummers know nothing about that, except how good
JB> the French horn cuties look doin' it.

 AH> Sheesh. :-))

I did read an article, where the drummer tried to sympathize his breath to
coincide with brass' or woodwinds' in a big-band setting. (Proper apostrophes?)
I never practiced it much - besides using it as an excuse to oggle over the
French horn cuties.

JB> (Remember: Proximity to the percussion section weighs
JB> heavily on our sight line.)

AH> Lucky you! Clarinet players are often seated
AH> directly in front of trumpet or alto sax players who get
AH> their kicks by playing fortissimo.... ;-)

"At bar xxx, you can *not* hit that tympani hard enough at the triple
forte,"
was emphasized and repeated. Try being in the tuba section for that piece! I
put my mallet through a batter on one practice. I guess I executed his orders
to a tee that day.

AH> Sometimes people on the verge of change kick & scream
AH> quite vigorously about it.... :-))

"Change" can be exchanged with "success" too often.

 JB> (Rocking the boat? |-)

AH> Probably. I'd expect nothing less from you... [chuckle].

Ah!!! I've become predictable!

...
JB> wanted the comfort in communal ignorance.

 AH> Uh-huh. I think that's very common.... :-)

JB> "Head in the sand" seems to work for some though, just
JB> don't expect me to explain it.

 AH> It's a form of denial. When they're ready
AH> they'll progress to the next stage. All of us have to
AH> learn our lessons on our own timetable.... :-)

... Or not progress.

Speaking of which, I have been struggling through a Physics Made Simple-like
text. It's meant to breeze through mathematics, and encapsulate high-school
physics, calculus, algebra, and the rest. I shouldn't say I have struggled much
so far, but for the last seven days or so, even the bathroom
"library" has had
me fogging over. (No quips about air quality, please. B*) <- That's my "gas
mask" smilie> More accurately, I might say I struggle with my expanding
timetable dictate.

[...]
AH> think if they admit to knowing *anything* you'll want to
AH> stretch them beyond their comfort zone. :-)

Who, *me???*

[...]
JB> flying, I had to stop her with, "Too much information."

AH> I'm glad you can acknowledge that & communicate it to other
AH> folks. Even for an experienced teacher it's not always easy
AH> to hit the right level... and doctors often seem to forget
AH> or don't know how to change mental gears when they're required to
AH> explain various things to those of us who have not been to medical

When the "glass is overflowing" is one thing, but when
"There's a hole in the
bucket, dear Liza."

AH> He was quite taken aback at first, but he learned to speak
AH> to us in plain English.... :-))

Latin is understood by you though, so it could be used to shortcut your
conversations. For the rest of us "unwashed masses", we *need*
the explanation
in "simple" English.
