AH> Ah... if I'm not mistaken, these planks will take
AH> up less space once you get the nails out. And then you're
AH> going to use them. Good.... :-)

Ya... They were part of a crate of some sort. The planks were nailed to
perpendicular planks, with some 2x4 bracing. Since I wrote, I *just*
trimmed the tops of those planks from the top of the fence they mended.
Four sides I pre-stained, and now the final two faces need a coat of stain.

A couple of days ago, I found some more shipping crates, that must have
been used to import raw wood to a local shop. I really wanted to
disassemble them before loading them into the bus, but the daylight was
almost done, and these things are usually shot full of metal fasteners of
all sorts. One or two whacks of a hammer turned out to pop most of the
spanning pieces out, and about two hours after unloading, I had one pile of
1x stock, and another pile of scrap with about 90% of the metal still
attached. Tickety bo... Two of those pieces made it onto the neighbour
fence, where they are serving as a free floating top brace, that doubled as
a circular saw guide.

JB> The excuse I made for yesterdays shortfall, was the
 JB> ...
 JB> justify my truncated effort.

AH> You needn't justify it to me... I'd encourage you to assess
AH> your own energy level & budget your time accordingly! Unless

Hell no!!! I needed to justify it to *myself*.

AH> there are children and/or domestic animals who might be at
AH> risk if the fence isn't completely intact, it probably
AH> doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things when you
AH> finish the job. So... why use the mosquitoes as an excuse?
AH> I suspect there are some energetic extroverts and/or non-
AH> intuitive folks around you who think they understand why
AH> you would let something external & tangible, such as
AH> mosquitoes, determine how you behave but who would be
AH> outside their comfort zone if you alluded to other factors.
AH> No doubt there's more than one reason for a lot of things
AH> you do, as there is for me... and you may trim the
AH> explanation to suit the audience. :-)

There's an audience?

How about the time I POed a nest of ants enough, for them to take wing so
they could colonize quieter grounds. I guess their mandibles get bigger, or
they are more inclined to use them, but the bottom line is they had nothing
to lose when dummy #1 stuck his shovel into 'em for their parting kiss off.
The jig I did that day...

 JB>

AH> Or marching to the beat of a different drummer... [grin].

Ya... One with a wonkey bass-drum pedal.

JB> I may drag the last few boards to a table I have about

 AH> I see you're doing some creative problem-solving. I like
 AH> that. :-)

I just wore the overalls with the neoprene kneepads. ...Could-a used *those* tonight.

JB> Maybe I *have* entered old age!

AH> It's often said that life begins at forty, i.e. an age at
AH> which many people stop worrying about what others think &
AH> unashamedly get on with what is right for them. If you can
AH> find ways to adapt your work area (or whatever) so as to
AH> make your own life a bit easier I'm delighted to hear that.

I would say, I'm much smarter at dressing my wounds.
Sprains, and strains, and even a minor broken bone I can deal with a degree
of confidence. I'm also not as shy about seeking out the pros, when I need
to.

About social stigma, I own and use a former Calgary Transit Handi-bus. A
"Short Bus" if you will. I have a SWAG beanie hat from a movie
promotion next to the drivers seat, and I've been keeping a keen eye out
for an old football helmet to supplant it. I suppose I am still concerned
about my image, but little worried about the verdict.

AH> I see people of various ages using the equipment... with the sole
AH> exception of a brief chapter about "pediatric" items
which would be too
 AH> small for you. ;-)

A surplus patient lift is being studied, so I can convert it into a lift
system for the bus.
