I got timEd to work using XMSGAPI. No major changes, but there's a problem
with the XMSGAPI 1.5 makefile in that it doesn't add putword.o to
libxmsgapi.a, so you'll need to add putword.o to
xmsgapi/unix/gnu-c/makefile, or just wait for XMSGAPI 1.6 to be released,
along with timEd 1.11.a4 (coming soon).

As you may have noticed by the tearline, I did get timEd to compile under
Linux, but I'm running the Linux binary using FreeBSD's Linux translation
module (a bit like an emulator). Seems to work just like the native
FreeBSD version.

I really doubt you need newer libraries to compile those, since there's
nothing intrinsically "new" to the Msged/SMAPI code. It just
uses standard UNIX stuff. So it's either a Makefile problem, or maybe a
missing #include, or you're missing some important header files/libraries
on your Linux machine, but without seeing the error message(s) I can only
guess.

FWIW, I use SuSE 6.2 (1999) (running under VMware in Windows 2000) for testing.
