A "crack" is just making the key to fit someone elses lock.

You are not necessarily stealing everything in someone elses house

if you use a key to open their front door. 

You could just unlock their front door with your key and walk away.

This is "Breaking but NOT entering.

 

A locksmith does not break the law by making keys for people to "do as they

will" with them.
