What does anybody think of the EXPOS-BLUE JAYS recent interleague 3 games
serie? I smell a new rivalry between the only two canadian teams!
That's if the Expos stay in Montreal. I mean we have a great team, the
lowest payroll in baseball, and despite this, year after year they're
in contention for the wild-card, and even champions of the big and bad
NL East (remember the short strikened 1994 season). In any other division,
they'd be automatically in the play-offs. They're payroll is only
16 million dollars, but year after year, they fight till the bitter end.
Sure the Marlins' payroll is about 3 times more than "nos amours" (49 million
dollars), but hey, the Expos are but four games back from the wild-card lead
(the Marlins) nearing the all-star game. They don't depend on money to have
great players, but on their minor leagues, they probably have the best farm
system in the MLB. The Expos are probably the most cost-efficient team in the
majors. It'll be a shame if they have to move
to some other baseball hungry city in the States, but that's the way it is in
Montreal. The Expos, despite their money problems, is one of the best team in
baseball powered by great young talent like Ugueth Urbina,
rookie of the year candidate Vladimir Guerrero, defensive specialist
Rondell White, pitching sensations Carlos Perez, Jeff Juden (10-2), and up
and comming newcommer Dustin Hermanson, without forgetting Cy Young candidate
Pedro Martinez (10-3, second overall in strikouts, the best MLB ERA in about
1.50). None of these talents would have progressed if it weren't for one of
the greatest managers out there, Felipe Alou, hats off to ya. Let's face it,
the Expos are a "great" team, but if no one supports them on financing the
new baseball park downtown, we can kiss em goodbye to Virginia.
