This (and the remark about Japanese users) created a thought I had not had 
before about the y2K "controversy": to what degree is the Christian Era 
dating utilized in the rest of the world?  I realize that CE dating has a 
wide popularity (if that is the right word ) due to the preeminence of 
European culture across the planet, but is there significant use of other 
dating systems?
