JANE KELLEY was thinking about Ritalin 2/2 and keyed into
cyberspace:
JK>>>> Continued from previous message
JK>Ritalin and amphetamine have almost identical adverse effects on the
JK>brain, mind and behavior, including the production of drug-induduced
JK>behavioral disorders, psychosis, mania, drug abuse, and addiction.
A fairy tale.
JK>Ritalin can cause permanent neurological tics including Tourette's
JK>syndrome.
NO IT CANNOT. If a child has an underlying tic, then the med will bring
it out. It invariably stops when the med is withdrawn.
JK>Ritalin can retard growth in children by disrupting the cycles of
JK>growth hormone released by the pituitary gland.
Disproven by competent clinical research.
JK>Ritalin "works" by producing malfunctions in the brain rather than by
JK>improving brain function. This is the ONLY way it works.
No, it works by speeding up an area of the brain that is underactive.
JK>Our society has institutionalized drug abuse among our children.
JK>Worse yet, we abuse our children with drugs rather than making the
JK>effort to find better ways to meet their needs. In the long run, we
JK>are giving our children a very bad lesson--that drugs are the answer
JK>to emotional problems. We are encouraging a generation of youngsters
JK>to grow up relying on psychiatric drugs rather than on themselves and
JK>other human resources.
ADHD is NOT an emotional problem.
JK>LC>AR> RF> wears off about 9 pm. Still is having sleeping problems.
JK>LC>AR> RF> I did twice give it to him late in the day and that did
JK>LC>AR> RF> seem to help him get to sleep earlier than 3am. Two
JK>LC>AR> RF> questions for ya:
JK>IT IS NO WONDER AT ALL TO ANY QUALIFIED CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY COUNSELOR
JK>that this child and others cannot sleep when full of speed. The
JK>question should be the qualifications of those who prescribed it for
JK>that child in the first place.
MPH is NOT speed. Note that Regina said that when she gave her son the
medication ***late in the day*** he slept better. Thus, you have shown
an inability to comprehend.
JK>LC>AR> RF> Can Ritalin help some sleep? He is only still on a very
JK>LC>AR> RF> low dosage.
JK>NO! Ritalin acts like speed, like an amphetamine.
It CAN help some kids sleep.
JK> LC>for my son they put him on clodine for sleep. without it he
JK>would not LC>sleep until midnight. LC>have you tried some melatalin?
JK>it is a herb and helps me to sleep, but I LC>do not have ADHD, but it
JK>is worth a try.
JK>Whoppee! We are teaching this one early on how to offset the
JK>symptoms caused by one drug with another one. Usually they have t
JK>spend a couple of years learning this on the streets.
What a dopey statement.
JK>Better Living Through Chemistry has become a national slogan.
JK>oLC>AR>Actually, I think Jeremy is experiencing what I call a
JK>"rebound".
JK>He needs to be taken to someone who knows the toxic symptoms of drug
JK>use and evaluated for possible addiction and reaction to that same
JK>drug!!!!
Ritalin in therapeutic dosages is NOT addictive.
JK>LC>yep this is normal
JK>It isn't. It may be "normal" for kids being given drugs instead of
JK>other therapy, but it is far from being normal.
JK>----- Operator Halted!
Oh, how I wish it were true.
