Replying to a message of Allen Prunty to Bob Ackley: AP> On 8/19/2008 6:10 AM, Bob Ackley wrote to Allen Prunty: AP> -> I survived prostate cancer (1995). I can still get cancer, I cannot get *prostate* cancer. Unfortunate side effect: I can't play with girls any more. Note that I was asymptomatic back in 1994/5. The only reason the cancer was caught was that the hospital where I was then working gave away *free* prostate cancer screens once a year. I figured heck, it was in my price range (free), it only took a couple of minutes to draw the blood and do the finger wave, and I was there anyway (just stayed 30 minutes or so after my shift ended, and most of that was waiting in line). With prostate cancer, by the time the symptoms (mainly what they call 'urinary urgency' - you have to pee *NOW*, there's little warning and you can't stop it) become apparent and unmistakeable, the cancer has already metastasized and it's too late for surgery. Unfortunately that 'urinary urgency' is also a symptom of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, basically an enlarged prostate gland).
