SK>-> Teachers give the exams to their students, and they are also
SK>-> responsible for grading them in most Lander. In fact, part of their
SK>-> pre-service training deals with creating and grading Abitur exams.
SK>-> Most Lander have a system in place for cross-checking teacher
SK>-> grading, but the system clearly^ requires a significant amount of
SK>-> trust to be vested in teachers.

SK>Wow. I can't see such a thing ever flying here. First of all, we would
SK>have to extensively modify the teacher training programs to include
SK>training in how to write and grade such exams.
Given that many states pay their teachers as poorly as they do, it would
seem unlikely that very many teachers would be up to the task. No
matter how deep one's commitment to educating our youth, I can't
envision teaching math or science in a state like Louisiana where
starting pay is still less than $20K per year. Not this fella, anyway.
SK>But besides that, I don't think that the public or state legislatures
SK>would ever trust teachers in the US to be qualified to make such
SK>decisions.
Point well taken.
SK>I can't imagine any Rotary Club here in the states seeking out high
SK>school teachers or even really wanting them in the club at all.
Nope - in our area you don't qualify as a Rotarian unless you're a
building principal at least.
