  I had a look at this too.

  I came to the conclusion that it's always going to be too slow, as
long as you read the entire disc. It never gets to be in cache, so
you're looking at around 60Mb/min if the hard disc does 90Mb/min. With
500Mb of crap, 8 minutes is too long, each time you boot.

  The alternative is to mark every file just once, and then check it
when the file is loaded... spreading the 8 minutes around.
