0n (23 Oct 06) BOB KLAHN wrote to CINDY HAGLUND... BK> CH>> Now what do you make of this fact that if I search/post for BK> CH>> the Fort Worth area, uh Excuse me! They have it under BK> CH>> DALLAS! !!! grrrrrr. BK> BK>> There's a difference? CH> (blink blink blink... BARB Hand me the double bubble Nerf CH> Bat_)) CH> Yes. BK> I know... my daughter used to live in FW. Went to church there, BK> the only Roman Catholic church I ever went to where the pastor BK> was married. What year? It's been growing... :) The "funniest" thing happened last month. I had been JUST thinking (after visiting my sister in Vancouver where there's a "kingdom hall" near their house)- we haven't gotten any of them coming door to door. SO confident I was I forgot to add the YET. Sure enough!!!! (and you can TELL what they are a block away.)... Three showed up. We escaped just in time. There they were in their Long sleeved shirts (three males)... in 90 degree heat. The JW's... and parked nearby was their spiffy gas guzzling tank of a car.... ***** Major Topic Torque **** I have learned to laugh at these people. For as anti-materialistic as they claim to be- they're the most materialistic people on the face of the plant. ((I've a relative who had got sucked into that cult which is by far even more 'cult' than the OTHER one(S). Let me clear something up first beforehand : when I say 'cult' I don't mean 'that dogmatisms which is not mainstream; I mean catmatism that is happy haven for literal minded 'my way or no way' Fanatics.)) There's tons of really super good ways to deter these pushers from your doorstep. :) One of the best ways that's well, I think most civilized and yet effective is to ask them where they live. When they ask why say how you would like to come to their house and press YOUR views upon them. And then you might add if they don't leave right then: Holler over your shoulder, "Honey you got that blood out of the carpet yet?" :) ***** End of Major Topic Torque CH> The funny thing is on a FW (Fort Worth) faq page it claims CH> FW is a mere (laughing!) 16 minutes from Downtown Dallas. CH> By what!!!??? Helicopter maybe. I'd say the BIGGEST CH> difference is... Traffic. BUT FW is all slap happy to catch CH> up. BK> Yes, 16 minutes, at 1AM, on a quite night. ER... which night would that be? :) It's not the in between that's so bad, it's when you get TO the city it piles up. Speaking of piling up. Ever notice those traffic weavers? I get a kick out of these idiots. Last time some dofus pulled into our lane in heavy traffic thinking he or she would be able to get the next break and get ahead.... well a few miles down the road where we whizzed by, escaping the jam at our exit... I saw the weaver stuck in a solid line of traffic HA!!! OR you know what else? They get a few cars ahead of you sure but end up getting stuck at the next red light often right next to you in the next lane. SIlly people. The other silly people are those who try drive (no snow tires here mind you) on icy roads where we have icy roads once a year, ice that melts and dries off completely within a day or the next. (The city doesn't sand the roads due to the rarity of need.). ......................................... CH> Can you see it now? The USA as People clogged as Japan? With CH> convenient land fills to either side (the oCeans)... the CH> rich get the best dibs on location... near the coasts CH> perhaps/the mountains... and the rest of us get stuck in CH> the middle. You know.. the former Bread BK> Yes. I see that often, when I hear about how we need to allow BK> more immigrants who just want a piece of the American dream. What people don't realize that dream becomes less achievable as the population grows. In the New York Times not long ago ran an article on how it is in some Eastern European countries now young couples are opting to have only one child and then try to move elsewhere because there's no child care service etc... The contries are working to correct this situation as they're enduring a brain drain as well as population loss. What's the take on this from those of you here who live in Europe? ...... BK> Much of the world wants a piece of the American dream. We can't BK> solve the world's problems by bringing them here. They have to BK> be solved where they are. It's not so much a dream anymore as many not so already wealthy immigrants soon find out. If you commit a crime and go to prison you can experience the Prisoner's Paradise though (comparatively cozier than welfare what with all the free amenities including health care.) Boy I sure am topic torquing a lot this morning... yikes. Sorry! The coffee spoketh! BK> ... CH> BTW Corning, NY is the home of Corning Glassworks ... CH> Corning Glass makes Pyrex ... among other things. We CH> were so SURPRISED to find a BK> I know about them. Pyrex is used to make telescope mirrors. BK> Cervit was also used for that purpose, made by Owens Illinois, I BK> believe. It was even better, but there was so little market for BK> it they stopped production. Nod. That comment was directed at our Across the Pond friends. :) ................. BK> BK>> Last year? Was that last year? Wasn't that a couple years ago? CH> That long ago already? You're provably right. I try not to CH> think about time too much. Good grief Ooh what does this CH> mean?- My family and I have been here in Texas now just CH> about the same length of time we were in Florida. Funny CH> how it seems like we were hardly in BK> It's hard for me to keep track also. There may well have been BK> another one in NY, for all I know. The big one, that shut down BK> several states, was a couple years ago. Just looked, it was BK> 2003. Ah yes... I remember it well. Oh. The shuttle disaster is ever entrenched into my mind. It's almost scary. If I were a superstitious sort I'd say it was almost prophetic in some weird way but of course that's silly!!!! You see my hubby and I were standing across the Indian River at a park where you can view the landing of the shuttle.... see. We even have pictures of the viewing area looking out... It takes SIX MINUTES for the shuttle to land from passing by Houston, TX (JSC; mission control). This was a week before we had to move to Texas, in the same area the shuttle exploded. It took us a long time to be able to enjoy the big wide open big huge blue sky without picturing that (AVOIDABLE) disaster in it. Forever and a day we'll remember when. (I must explain that my hubby had been working on a contracted project for NASA. A project nearly completed to upgrade the shuttle launch check out system... Canceled by current assdministartion to fund a n illegal war. Knowing this you may get my drift about how 'prophetic' this disaster seemed.) ............... Cindy ...
