The _call-delay_ directive sets a delay before starting a new client process
(thread) after maximum allowed client processes (threads) set in the
_maxclients_ directive have been started. The mail queue is not scanned during
the delay. The default value is 60 seconds.
The _maxclients_ directive sets maximum allowed client processes (threads)
which may work concurrently. In other words it is a maximum number of outgoing
connections. The default value is 100.
The _rescan-delay_ directive sets a delay between mail queue scans. The delay
may be increased by the value of _call-delay_. It also sets a delay before
binkd termination if command line option '-p' has been used. The default value
is 60 seconds.
Let us now see how client manager works.
After the client manager is started it scans the mail queue: outbound
directories and fileboxes, both T-mail and The Brake! style fileboxes and the
personal link fileboxes declared in the _node_ directives. If there is a mail
for a link and no active connection with it and its IP address or domain name
is known, the client manager initiates an outgoing connection by creating a
process (thread) working with the link. It does so until the number of the
client processes (threads) reaches _maxclients_ value or the mail queue becomes
empty. If _maxclients_ limit has been reached then the client manager makes a
delay of _call-delay_ seconds and then checks the number of client processes
again. After the mail queue has become empty the client manager makes a delay
of _rescan-delay_ seconds. If after the mail queue scan it turns out that the
mail queue is empty and there are no active outgoing connections and binkd was
started using '-p' option then the client manager terminates binkd.
That was my translation of excerpts from Binkd User Guide by Stas Degteff (in
Russian).
