Ok, I rang them up (Ernst + Young, Melbourne, 008-807-691, and they said
she was given a new investor number on 14/6/96, as requested by my broker.
Of course they had no record of who my broker was and under what authority
etc. She went and asked someone else, and came back with a "It's
because you changed chess sponsor". She wouldn't copy the TFN etc
details from the old number to the new ("can't be done over the
phone" - I didn't want it done over the phone, I wanted it done from
their computer to their computer!), but she's sending out forms again. She
says that you have to fill in the forms again ANY time you swap chess
sponsors for ANY company. I almost managed to quote Email at her, but she
said (correctly) that that was the Sydney office.
What sort of cockup is this? Xiayi's old client code is C0001119184 and
her new one is X0008496919. Just because I changed sponsor?! The second
thing is that they didn't take withholding tax out. She said that was
because they were fully franked, which is true. The thing is, they are
only fully franked at 36%. Failure to declare TFN normally means
withholding tax of ~50%. BFN. Paul.
