That's the theory, they don't seem to enforce it. My current balance is
~$250 for example.

Ditto, although I haven't actually tried to deposit/withdraw < $500 from
memory.

Yes. They specifically restructured their account numbers recently to
facilitate that - used to eg MAL 1402, now it looks like a normal bank
a/c number (but it's 8 digits. Hmmm).
