Hello George,

>LL>If you are being chased by an alligator, what do you do?
>LL>If you run in a straight line, the alligator will catch you
>LL>and eat you alive. And if you dive into the water and try
>LL>to outswim the alligator, the alligator will jump in after
>LL>you and eat you alive.

>LL>As every kid knows, at least those kids in Louisiana, you gotta
>LL>outrun an alligator by running in a zigzag. You see, an alligator
>LL>has to stop in order to change direction. And that takes time,
>LL>giving the kid enough time to get to safety.

>LL>In Australia, where crocodiles are king, running away is not the answer.
>LL>Instead, one should sneak up behind the croc and walk on its back, then
>LL>clasp the jaws to keep them from snapping together, and hope the croc
>LL>is not really hungry.

>LL>The other way is to feed the croc with something other than a kid.

GP>The other way, that I've found most successful, is to just not be
GP>in-your-face in a predator's own environment!

But that would be taking all the fun out of things. Gotta do like one
idiot did, by swimming with the alligators. The first time he tried it,
he lost a leg. But that did not stop him. After a few months of rehab,
having to learn how to walk on one leg, as well as to swim with one leg,
he did it again. Only the second time he invited the press. The
reporter and photographer from the newspaper were amazed, and gave the
story a double-page spread in the Sunday newspaper.

What some folks will do for their 15 minutes of fame...
