Hello Stuart
Replying to a message of Stuart Hedges to Michael Reed:
SH> I don't know much about Genesis (except that I've now listened to The
SH> Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and I didn't like it very much) and
SH> everyone will tell you a different favourite Marillion album... Not
[Marrilion Advice]
Thanks for the recomendations. A lot of people responded with advice on which
Marrilion album to buy. I'll be keeping an eye out.
SH> Now, you can tell me what the best Pink Floyd albums are in return for
 SH> that little lot!
Well I havn't got that many yet! My personal favorite at the moment is _The
Wall_ . I'm listening to the album and watching the film a lot at the moment.
It's not the most accesable of the Pink Floyd albums but once you've got into
it a bit and understand the overall story its exellent. This contains
Comfortably Numb which is probably my favorite Pink Floyd song. If you get
this one then see if you can find the secret backwards message.
_Wish You Were Here_ is very easy to get into but is still a very good album.
It only has five songs but these are very long and very good. Perhaps this
would be a good first Pink Floyd album, dont let the short tracklistig put
you off.
_Dark Side Of The Moon_ is exellent and very accessable.
I don't actuallty have _Pulse_ but I have listened to it a lot and it
contains very good live versions of the songs. Maybe if you could listen to
this you could pick out the songs you like and get that album. Personaly,
with a band like Pink Floyd I would rather have an album than a 'Greatest
Hits' CD, albeit a *very* good one.
The only one I've got so far that I did't really like was _Relics_ . It is a
collection of early material and is a bit patchy. It has /some/ good stuff on
it. Perhaps someone reading this message in the UK would like to netmail me
about this album?
Most of pink floyd is very accessable. You can enjoy the music on a first
hearing but as you get into it you can start to enjoy it on another level.
MR>> Most of the music I like is Pop/Rock/Metal. I think a lot of the the
SH> Pop?! You admit listening to pop?! Tut tut... actually I have to
SH> admit liking straight (as opposed to prog) rock (and /occasionally/
SH> metal) but there's not really anything in the charts that interests
 SH> me.
Well I'm listening to Depech Mode right now, thats pop isn't it? I don't
follow the charts at all. I honestly havn't bought a brand new album in about
three years. It's stricly second hand ATM. This is half becuase most of the
music I like is older and also for financial reasons. Whenever I get some
cash together I try and make a trip out of town (theres only one second hand
record shop here) to get something new. It's not that I like that much music,
it's just that the music I like falls into different catagories.
MR>> NR: Heart Of Darkness + The Colour Of Magic.
SH> Have you read pTerry's other books?
No, this is my first and I am enjoying it so far. A friend of mine has a load
of these to lend me. Perhaps when i've finished it we could discuss it in
_pratchet_ or _library_ or something?
Bye then,
Michael Reed
