Actually, they didn't "hang out together", they warred constantly!

Their gods were, as defines pagan gods, deifications of elements of the
universe.  The Bible posits God as above/over/superior to the
universe...

There's no real basis to call God male either, as the Bible never says
such -- the Hebrew pronouns, as English, are the neuter form (the neuter
form is also the one used to denote males, as we don't constitute our
own distinct gender, as nothing really distinguishes males from
humanity, as the uterus(child-bearing, as of significant value) does for
females. . .
