Yoo Hoo, EchoEars!
I'm posting these WDW trip reports for Bruce Metcalf. Enjoy!
Date: Friday 12 September.
We depart Chattanooga TN for the drive to Kissimmee on time, 8 a.m., to the
great amazement of She Who Worries About Such Things. Made good time,
arriving at our hotel in Kissimmee at 6:30 p.m.--ten hours, counting lunch,
plus a half hour blown at the Ocala Disney/AAA Welcome Center because we
just couldn't wait for our first fix of Magic.
BTW, this is a must-stop for anyone driving. You can get restaurant PS
[priority seating, the next best thing to a reservation], discount
on-property hotel rooms (when available), park guidebooks, and directions
on the *fast* route to the property:
Don't go through Orlando. Especially as you will usually hit there about
rush hour, which lasts three. Stay on I-75 to the Florida Turnpike, exit
at US 27 (pay $1 toll), and take it south to US 192. You can't miss the
place, and you won't miss the extra 30-90 minutes spent in downtown Orlando
traffic.
This trip we're staying at the Holiday Inn Main Gate East. (No cracks
about staying off-property, please. We both work for HI in Chattanooga and
the employee rate here is less than the tax on a room at the Poly. Have
beni will travel!) Not a great location this year. Still lots of highway
construction on 192 from World Way to I-4, and this end of Kissimmee is a
neon jungle, but very close to the property.
Bad news: Holiday Inn has sold out of the room type we reserved 60 days
ago, and as expected, they didn't tell us at the desk, but let us schlepp
our bags in to discover this fact for ourselves. Took two days to find our
room. Way to go, Team Holiday! Nice room, once we finally got in. Modem
jack is on the far side of the bed from the desk, and there are no free
outlets, but one kinda expects this in all but the very newest
hotels--which this is not. Oh well, at these prices...
Couldn't work up the energy to go on-property for dinner, especially as it
was already 8 p.m., and tried Key Largo in Kiss. Our one-word review:
don't. That's all we're going to say.
Set the alarm clock and get ready for tomorrow!
