GROUP DROPS THREAT TO POST AOL E-MAIL ADDRESSES
An organization supporting bulk e-mailers Friday dropped its
threat to post the e-mail addresses of 5 million America
Online subscribers on the Internet. The National
Organization of Internet Commerce (NOIC) had threatened to
post the addresses on January 8 unless AOL agreed to stop
blocking bulk e-mail advertising. AOL had threatened legal
action if the list was posted. NOIC president Joseph Melle
said he had received an overwhelming response from AOL users
protesting the idea.
