  That's what I planned to do, and it seems to work rather well. What
problems does it cause?

  My idea was to use CRC16 and only modify the time field, not the
date. CRC16 normally uses a seed of FFFFh or 0000h. I was going to use
an odd number.

  The problem with having a files list separate from the DOS directory
is having to update it every time you delete a file.
