I can see an interest in cooking generating that kind of interest,
particularly if many live in the area.  In some ways it reminds me of the
REGCONS and Net gatherings of the 80's and 90's.

I see the death of RIME as another indicator that a network which cannot
access full internet resources is bound to die.  I think Fido will follow
although given its anarchy, it may not be aware of its death.

The contingency plan makes good sense.
