Not just TV writing, of course, but that's where you'll see the process 
most clearly--since you're developing characters and situations over time.

I've been lucky enough to have been involved in some original works. 
During the rehearsal/development process, the writers do start to write 
for the actor involved and incorporate elements of personality and 
abilities into the character.  It is really a thrill to realize that, at 
some point, the material is actually being written for *you*!  (of 
course, this means that you'd darn well better play it right...)
