Not just TV writing, of course, but that's where you'll see the process most clearly--since you're developing characters and situations over time. I've been lucky enough to have been involved in some original works. During the rehearsal/development process, the writers do start to write for the actor involved and incorporate elements of personality and abilities into the character. It is really a thrill to realize that, at some point, the material is actually being written for *you*! (of course, this means that you'd darn well better play it right...)
