| subject: | Re: Eject Utility Needed |
From: "Glenn Meadows"
Is there a place somewhere that you can change the function from Fixed to
Removable? I know that there is the Eject Hardware function on my Laptop,
but how would one hook into this on a desktop system?
The DAW manufacturer is shifting to using Windows connected drives, instead
of their private SCSI chain, and this is an issue that needs to be
addressed. They offer removable IDE drives, and using a SCSI adapter, you
can connect your prior "private" drives to the Windows Host
controller now. The eject becomes somewhat of a problem. They use their
own format for large drives that Windows does not recognize (one of their
format options), so those work OK, unless the drives are under 4gig, then
Windows can understand the format, but not read the disk. Over 4Gig, and
Windows doesn't know what to do with the drive, so there is not drive
letter assigned.
When you choose FAT32 as the format for the large drives, THEN Windows sees
them, and attempts to log and assign drive letters if you click on them in
Explorer. Those are the ones that need to be un-logged to be removed, or
the next drive you put in will have it's FAT trashed, unless you logged
off/ejected the prior disk.
