Hi, Paul. PE> Frank, which backup tape unit did you buy, and why, and how much did it PE> cost? BFN. Paul. Colorado Travan. Price, stable technology (I was thinking of DAT to get 2/4Gig, Brenton reckons they're a bit variable plus cost a lot more), capacity (400meg raw, 800meg if it manages to get 2:1 compression - it doesn't, 'cos a lot of my stuff is already zipped which gets about 1:1. The client etc database goes over 1:1.5 though), the availability of another unit if this one fails/gets trashed/stolen/whatever (Brenton has one). Cost I don't know as I got a whole lot of other stuff at the same time, would have to dig out the invoice. Ask Brenton. PE> P.S. And did you need to buy a SCSI controller card for it? No, it runs off the floppy controller which now has 1.44 & 1.2 meg floppies, the (very!) old Colorado 40meg and the new Travan hanging off it, all coexisting peacefully (but not simultaneously although the other day I was in the middle of a multi-tape restore from the 40meg, went off to do something else and it stopped and asked for the next tape. In the meantime my timed auto backup started on the Travan and ran successfully. When I returned I put in the next 40meg tape and IT ran successfully!) You can also get them (or a similar model) for the printer port and with their own controller card. The latter would be fastest but it's not a problem for me. The software has a bug regarding the timestamp it saves for the file, have to get onto them about that.
