"10-point-list"? Not really. Where's your sense of adventure? :-)

What sort of dial-up connection will you be using? IP-based, or TTY (dumb
terminal)? If the former, then make sure the UUCP you're using supports
UUCP via IP (SLIP or PPP).

Try the UUCP-HowTo (it's on disc 3).

It's not "netmail" (Fidonet-ism), just straight
"email". I use PINE, so you can install that from your discs if
you want. After a while, you'll find something that you prefer and use
that. I also have ML (X-based), but don't use it as often.

PE> 3. Be able to FTP (vs FREQ) things with Saturday's call.

Automated or interactive? I recall using "ncftp" with a whole
raft of parameters some time ago to grab stuff in batch mode. If your
connection is IP-based, then you can cron-job the lot and have the FTP
running along with the UUCP session. If you're running TTY-based, then
you'll have to come up with some other UUCP-based solution as FTP requires
IP.

PE> 5. Edit UNXBINK/config and put in your UUCP name and ISP address.

Ahh, UUCP via TTY-based dial-up? Kiss FTP good-bye. For that, you'll
require SLIP or PPP.

You may want to consider SLiRP or some other alternative for downloading
gobs of net.news when you dial-up. POP3 should handle your email nicely -
depending on your MUA, it should connect to the POP3 server at your ISP and
download all the mail to a mailbox on your PC where you can read/reply.

PE> 8. Send a mail message to "majordomo" and put in the list
of newsgroups
PE> you want to be connected to.

You appear to be under a misconception here - "majordomo" is a
mailing list manager; if you intend accessing newsgroups via this, then
it's because someone's gating the groups via the mailing list (mailing
lists and newsgroups aren't the same thing).

In this case, you won't need to worry about a separate news setup since all
the stuff will be dumped in your inbound email box (messy).

PE> 10. Whenever you want to read + write mail, simply go "unxmsgd".

Sounds all nice and neat, and you've got the basic idea. But I'd suggest
playing around with using your machine as a "client" first,
before starting to download net.news (UUCP) and other odds and ends just
yet. Step-by-step...

Apart from the mailing list thing and the references to Bink/Squish/MsgEd,
it doesn't sound too bad at all.
