   That all depends on *how* and by *whom* that is told.

   Notice that nobody uses e.g. 'Yanks' or similar? That's because we
*know* that can be regarded as "distasteful" or whatever you
prefer to call it.

   As for USAian, all we have is the words of some of the usual Z1
hardheads, none of whom has managed to explain *why* it should be
"distasteful". We even have the words of many of the Z1 people
that we *really* respect, that *they* do not find it
"distasteful" in any way.

   I'd say it says more about those that complain, than about those that
use a very natural abbreviation, to avoid the ambiguity, that people
outside of the US actually may find in the use of the word 'American'.
