Genesis' best album IMHO is "Foxtrot" (1972), with "Supper's Ready" on it.
As a start to the Gabriel-era Genesis, I'd recommend "Selling England By
The Pound", it was the first Gabriel-era album I heard, and I bought it
immediately... The best early Genesis are (in this order):
Foxtrot
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Selling England By The Pound
Nursery Cryme
And of course the "Live" album (1973) is great, but I can't compare it to
studio albums - it has one fault, they decided not to put "Supper's Ready"
on it, though rumours say a test pressing of a double-album version has
been made. But generally, Genesis sound much better live than in the
studio...
But I think "Selling England" is the best album to get started, "Foxtrot"
takes a while to appreciate...
All of this ist of course just my opinion, but I'm not alone with it :-)
See you,
Henning
Bis denne,
Henning
