-=> Quoting MARK PROBERT to REGINA FINAN <=-
MP> REGINA FINAN was thinking about Newsgroup and keyed into cyberspace:
RF>Haven't been in the Newsgroup lately. I am currently getting a new
RF>provider and do not have my mail.address on file yet. Will be back
RF>there when I get it. We are also currently beta testing a software
RF>and my BBS took a fall. So I have been too busy to read and post
RF>here.
RF>Would like to throw this at ya though.
RF>Jeremy has been doing good on Ritalin. Although his behavior is
RF>getting out of control (much worse) when it wears off about 9 pm.
RF>Still is having sleeping problems. I did twice give it to him late
RF>in the day and that did seem to help him get to sleep earlier than
RF>3am. Two questions for ya:
RF>Can Ritalin help some sleep? He is only still on a very low dosage.
MP> There have been recent studies that have addressed this issue. They
MP> found that triple divided dosages do not adversely affect the
MP> patient's ability to go to sleep, and, in many cases help.
MP> Josh takes 5 mg at 3 p.m. and it seems to work just fine.
That is still too early for Jeremy. Jeremy is suppose to take it at
8am and 2pm, but I have given it to him as late as 4 and then it still
is a problem. But that is not giving 3 doses only two. I did once give
it to him at 5pm because he had a rough nite sleeping and I could not
wake him up enough to get him on the schedule. This did seem to do
some good. I will be addressing such very shortly. The dosage was
given this way because the dr. thought the Ritalin could possibly work
for the 5 hours it is suppose to and because he did not want to interfer
with Jeremy's problem of sleeping. But it does not interfer at nite
when I have given it to him late so this may be a good choice of 3 times
instead of just 2.
RF>I heard that sometimes when first starting Ritalin when it wears off
RF>the behavior can get worse until the Ritalin stabilizes in the body.
RF>Is this true?
MP> It is called rebound. The triple divided dose seems to address this.
MP> If rebound is still a big problem, a doc with some experience shoudl
MP> know how to address this.
Yes, I do see it as I get an episode of aggression almost every nite
between 7 and 9pm. On the other days there is no aggression he gets
extremly hyper.
RF>5mg twice a day is all he takes and it is doing a fairly good job.
RF>With no side effects, unless he forgets and eats something with
RF>Tyramine. That did happen once and he got a severe headache for
RF>several minutes. I believe it was a banana. The headache lasted for
RF>15 minutes and then gone.
MP> Does he get the headache when he consumes Tyramine and is not on meds?
No, only on the Ritalin. Tyramine according to my pill book, could raise
the blood pressure when taken on Ritalin, hence causing the headache. The
bananna was the only such food he ate so I have no idea if others would
cause it. But my Jonathon had this problem too on Ritalin. I just avoid
these things during anytime he is on the Ritalin and that takes care of
it. So it is not an allergic reaction as he can consume such foods without
the effects of a headache as long as he is not on the Ritalin.
Thanks for your imput. This will help. My girlfriends dr. has told her
that I seem to be quite informed and I feel pleased that I was able to
help her in this regard. She has the dr. now convinced her son needs
a though check up again and re-evaluation in meds. Apparently the other
doctor she was seeing (his partner and not Robbie's regular dr.) does
not know much about ADHD and it was him who did not want to consider
anything she was saying. Robbie's regular dr. is worried about his
aggression and rolling of the eyes when he is under hard stress and
will do a complete physical with tests and possibly change his meds.
Robbie was on Ritalin since he was 4 1/2 and is now going through
puberty.
Robbie is now saying very unappropriate things to his mother. He is
intensly sorry for them right after it comes out of his mouth. The
boy apparently respect me too much as she talks to me about the things
he does so I can help her understand and give her support through
these tuff moments. He's so afraid of disappointing me, even though
he knows I understand, that he was afraid of me coming over one nite
after something he said to his mother. The dr. said it is the attention
and understanding I give Robbie and he's afraid of losing it. I will
have to talk to him I guess. Well I'm rambling on.

P.S. The person that is setting my e-mail address and account up on
the internet is a manic deppressive. He's on one of his tagents and
I have to wait to get full services.
... All I need is a Wave and a board to surf it on.
