Hi:
Some time ago someone (Bill Cheeks?) showed an Off Center Fed Dipole
with one side 48 inches and the other 18 inches. It had a 300/75 ohm
balun in the middle. I built one today and this is what I found.
On the scanner it didn't pick up ANYTHING well. No 2-meters. No 6-Meters.
No CB. No 162.4 weather. No taxis. No NOTHING!!! The only thing that came
through was the local cops. Usually a full quieting signal with my normal
antenna (RS magmount on a pizza pan) but noisy and weak with this one.
That's the BAD news.....Now the GOOD news.
Just for fun I tried it on my TV. WOW! GREAT! FANTASTIC! BRIGHT AND CLEAR!
WHAT A BIG DIFFERENCE!!! It beat the old rabbitears I was using all to
pieces. I've never seen that good a picture!
So to whomever it was (Bill?), thanks for the great TV antenna. Total cost:
40 foot roll of aluminum ground wire $4.00
10 Foot piece of PVC pipe $1.00
--------
$5.00
Actual materials used about $0.75 worth
PVC end caps and a PVC Tee $2.00
300/75 ohm balun and cable (Free from my Junk Box)
-------------
Best $2.75 antenna I ever had
and I still have antenna materials
to play with.
