I just recently purchased a Mustek TwainScan II SP (for either PC/MAC) at 
Sam's Club (while I was in Phoenix) for $325 and it is an *excellent* flatbed 
scanner...the 4800 dpi interpolated mode could see the hair on an ant's butt!
Now if you want to buy a used 24 bit color hand scanner, I can make you a 
deal on an Envisions ENVColor (no moderator, I'm not posting for sale ads). 
Computer Shopper had reviews of flat bed scanners two or so months ago too if 
you need some info - although they seemed a bit biased in the article. They 
didn't rate the Mustek I bought in the high scale, but after playing with a 
bunch of different ones this one does excellent work and doesn't cost in the 
$500 or more range....
