Hello Lugaid!
Replying to a message of Lugaid Macrobert to John Meroth:
LM> -=> Oh, dear! John Meroth said Electric Cars to Paul Muehlbauer! <=-
JM>>> The BEST solution is fusion as one of its byproducts is
JM>>> hydrogen, which can be burned in fuel cells. The lowe
LM> oops... missed the original message... but:
LM> no... the waste product of fusion is helium... hydrogen is the fuel...
I did *NOT* say waste, I stated byproduct. The production of the hydrogen
(normally from water) is produced by the excess energy of the plant. Some of
that hydrogen could be used for fuel cells in electric cars.
I was hoping someone else would come up with the fuel cell approach.
BTW, O2 is another byproduct.
LM> umm... no... the only byproduct of fusion is helium... it *does*
 LM> produce
LM> radioactivity, but it does not produce radioactive material...
There will be some problems with components of the reactor becoming
radioactive, though that is very manageable.
JM>> Better rechargeable batteries will NEVER happen. The exchange of
JM>> electrons without permanently decomposing the chemical components
JM>> dictates MASSIVE weight for the storage media.
LM> actually, better rechargeable batteries are being developed all the
LM> time... to say never is certainly not to be looking at the research...
LM> all that is needed is to find a better mix of materials to "store"
LM> electrical power... look at lithium batteries, for instance... *much*
 LM> better than lead-acid batteries...
Lithium batteries are *not* rechargable!
You are right, though, I shouldn't say never.

John Meroth
