the program glenn mentioned does both email and newsgroups but it didn't do
what I was trying to do so I had to hack at OE to get my mailboxes
recognized again.

Problem is if you accidently delete a folder you can't get it back. I found
you can create a new one then delete the file it uses and rename the old
file to the new name (usually just adds a (1) to the file name).
