G'day Bill,

On 16-02-95 07:03, Bill Grimsley said to Jeff Green

JG>> I was wondering which of us would break first :-)

 BG> Nah, I just bent a little, that's all. Mind you, I didn't

BG> pay for it, but as I already own both the 2.1 and 2.11 GA

BG> blue-boxes now, I didn't feel too bad about installing

BG> Chris' copy of Warp. I don't miss the Win-OS/2 support at

BG> all, and the odd Winapp I run works just fine under Warp

 BG> anyway (marginally slower though).

I only use two WinApps at the moment. One is the Encyclopaedia and the
other is a floppy disk catalogue program. Maybe I should take a weekend and
install Warp. I'd use Winsetup to install Windows on HPFS from VDM as I
never boot to DOS.

Hmmm, I'll think about that. I would like to get rid of all my WinApps and
am taking steps in that direction with the FD catalogue program. The
Encyclopaedia is a little different though :-(

JG>> ...I'll let you be the guinea pig :-)

BG> Well, it's been five days now, and I wouldn't change back to 2.11

BG> for quids. At one stage, I had 32 different monster apps open,

BG> and the system still ran very sweetly indeed. Monitoring the

BG> free RAM and swapfile size has convinced me that IBM may have

BG> finally solved their ongoing problems with memory deallocation in

 BG> earlier releases.

What sort of video card are you using? I'm sure I read somewhere that only
certain Cirrus and Tseng video drivers had the memory leakage problem.

32 apps? Let me see, you have 16MB of memory right? Hmmm, my 12MB should be
quite sufficient then. Good.

BG> I also heard from an unconfirmed source that unlike earlier

BG> versions, IBM may well have an upgrade price for existing

BG> blue-box users, although whilst this would be very nice, I won't

 BG> be holding my breath.

Right! In that case I'll just hold off for a bit longer :-). After all, no
use wasting a full weekend if I can do it faster with the 'Blue Box'
version.

Regards...Jeff (jeff{at}grntrs.dialix.oz.au)

... I have the simplest of tastes. The best is satisfactory.
