-=> Quoting Michael Reed to All <=-
For Genesis I think their second album, _Trespass_, is a pretty good
place to start. It's probably the most easily accessable of the early
albums (other than the first one, which is basically a pop album), and
it's also darn good. Don't start with _Foxtrot_, no matter what
anyone here tells you! It's a good album, but it takes some listening
to get into it, so it might turn you off at first. And we don't want
that! :-)
As for Marillion, any of the first four studio albums are worth
getting. I'm not as fond of _Fugazi_, myself, but a lot of people
are. The other two are _Misplaced Childhood_ and _Clutching at
Straws_. Both are highly recommended! You may also try _Seasons End_
which is almost as good, but has a different singer. All the later
ones (all with the new singer) are, umm, not quite as good. I love
parts of _Holidays In Eden_, but some parts are not so good. _Brave_
is pretty decent, but pretty mellow and very hard to get into. The
most recent two, _Afraid of Sunlight_ and _This Strange Engine_ often
don't even sound like the same band as the earlier ones. They're OK,
but simply liking earlier ones will not necessarily mean you like
these ones.
If you happen to be in a record store look for _As the World_ by
Echolyn. You may not find it, but if you do *buy it*!!!!
