absolutely! it is how fidonet stays connected when the internet get
broken... landlines are also still in use in many places because it doesn't
take much for a storm to knock out cell towers and internet comms but POTS
lines just keep going and going and going... not to mention that copper is
much easier to splice back together than fiber ;)
