I could do quite a bit of the work that I need to do on
a 100 MHz Pentium or 486, but it would take a long time. e.g. building
SeaMonkey would take a few days. OpenOffice.org would probably be out of
the question.
After some research and much thought, I have ordered an
mITX board that has an Intel Atom chip soldered to it. I also ordered a
single 2 Gbyte DIMM, the maximum RAM the board will take. It's not the
entry-level server I was hoping for, but it can use SATA disk drives and
should be noticably faster than this Pentium III.
