Hello All,
Two days ago, me and some friends went to Amsterdam (3 hour drive) to see
Fish live. We went for the Marillion songs, we stayed for the Fish songs. All
too often, his songs are forgotten because they are very poor compared to the
real Marillion. But he has some good songs, too. They're no longer Neo Prog,
but they are still Prog (and Rock). His first two albums, _Vigil In A
Wilderness Of Mirrors_ and _Internal Exile_ don't differ that much from the
last Marillion album, _Clutching At Straws_.
His next one is _Songs from the Mirror_, in which he covers songs from Pink
Floyd (Fearless), Genesis (I Know What I Like) and other ProgRock bands (also
some non-PR's, but still interesting). Then there's _Suits_, _Accoustic
Sessions_, _Yin_, _Yang_, and finally _Sunsets on Empire_. These have a large
range of music, from real neoprog over near-metal to cheesy.
Fish is also very good in entertaining the audience. For example, he told
something about the life on the road (the difficult choice between the wife
at home, the X-Rated channels in the hotel or the local fans who are very
cooperative) and getting used to being home again (no spitting on the floor,
...) "And you start stealing towels from yer own bathroom, and the wife stops
you from checking out everytime you leave the house for a drink, ..."
The Fish fanclub also releases 'official b**tlegs', but since that's
off-topic, I won't discuss their incredible quality, their great atmosphere
and their nice covers :-)
Give Fish a chance, he's far better than the new Marillion (who have just
brought out _This Strange Engine_, another album that proves Hogarth can't
sing and the others can only get their inspiration from _Misplaced
Childhood_).
