I don't remember learning any hand stitching just machine.  I've heard
that some schools are getting rid of the home ec departmenat...really
riles me...especially when I see a picture in our local paper of the
kids fishing in the swimming pool as part of their course!!!!  I really
can't see golf, fishing and archery (to name a few) being taught in the
schools.  When our oldest was in school she was on the debate team which
was VERY small and they had to fight for everything they wanted while
the football team got everythig they wanted on a platter.  The kids
perservered and even went to the lower grades to get kids interested and
the program grew to a force to be heard in the shcool.  Well, enough for
the soap box!  :)
