| subject: | [WWW] Droz 9.15.03 column - Spike & Shaniqua: They`re tough! |
Message-ID: http://www.wwe.com/news/commentary/droz/1236815 Spike & Shaniqua: They're tough! by Droz Sept. 15, 2003 What a week it has been. By starting off RAW with a Steel Cage Match, the tone was set for the night. Kane and Rob Van Dam went out there and put on a spectacular showing. What we saw in the end was not only RVD being thrown through the cage but, in my eyes, a screw job by Bischoff. I know, you are either supposed to go over the cage or through the doorway, but technically, he did get down to the floor. As a result of the match continuing, Kane took total control and chokeslammed RVD off the ropes for the 1-2-3. These two have been going at it for quite some time now, and I would have loved to have seen Van Dam come out on top. The one bright spot is that at this Sunday's Unforgiven, we get to see Kane take on Shane McMahon, and we all know what that means: Shane is going to pull something out of his bag of tricks to make us chant "Holy s****!" Quite a few people have e-mailed me and asked me why I never talk about Spike Dudley. I know in the past I have praised him for his toughness and, as all of you can see, when he is in the ring he is one Superstar who earns every penny of his salary by giving up his body night in and night out. Not that everybody doesn't do that too, but Spike may be 150 pounds with weights added, and I have seen him take bumps that should have broken his little body in many pieces. I am sure that some of you remember when he was with ECW and the things that he used to go through there. One match in particular that stands out was between Spike and Bam Bam Bigelow. Near the end of the match, Bam Bam pressed Spike over his head and tossed him over the ropes and out into the crowd. Even though he was caught by the members of the crowd, I couldn't believe what I saw. If you haven't checked out Spike's article on the commentary page of WWE.com, make sure you do so, because he talks about his 10 greatest bumps. After what happened to him on Monday night, I think he might add that as the worst bump he has ever taken. I was thankful to hear that he was able to get up after having his head smash on the table like it did, and hopefully he will get a little time off to heal up. One quick thought on Lance Storm – wow! Did you see the fan reaction after he celebrated his victory over Rico? In my eyes, Lance is one of the top-notch wrestlers out there and the whole boring thing really bothered me, but now it is great to see the people getting behind him. Hopefully, in the weeks to come, we will see more of this and the brass upstairs will give Lance more TV time to show us just how entertaining he can really be. As most of you know, I have always been very big on the women's division. What has really entertained me, though, is the fact that we have female competitors on both shows who are able to bring us the goods … no pun intended! On Thursday night, we witnessed a match between Shaniqua and Dawn Marie. After seeing Shaniqua time and time again coming out with the Basham Brothers, I was looking forward to seeing her make her wrestling debut on SmackDown! in singles competition. Although it was short-lived because she was attacked, I am hoping to see more of her in one-on-one competition. I think it is going to be pretty tough for any of the other women to really match up with her, not from a talent standpoint, but from a physical standpoint. If you can't tell, this is one very large woman, not in a derogatory way, but she is just put together like no other female competitor today. Anyway, I wish her the best of luck. On Thursday, we remembered the two-year anniversary of the travesty that occurred on Sept. 11. I am sure that all of us remember where we were and how we felt when this happened. When I turned the TV on this past Thursday, there was a memorial being held at the World Trade Center site. I was only able to watch maybe five minutes of it because it brought back so many emotions and bad feelings. This is a day that none of us will ever forget, and hopefully as time goes on, we will be able to heal. On the show Thursday night, Bradshaw and Faarooq gave a toast to all our real heroes out there, the men and women of our police, fire and emergency departments who gave their lives trying to save the lives of others. What this brings me to is something that I have stressed all along as our troops have been deployed all over the world. We need to make sure that we keep them all in our thoughts and prayers as often as we can, because they are out there for one reason and one reason only, and that is to protect our way of life. Until next time … Droz – Peace --- Internet Rex 2.29* Origin: The gateway at Swills (1:229/3000.1) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 229/3000 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
