JPH> The next question is "then what?" How long does the Enterprise have t
JPH> shut down for? To what degree? Does she have to perform any repairs?
JPH> Does this damage the engines?
MM>At they very least, they need to cool things down. Otherwise, they
MM>haven't really said, that I recall.
I have always assumed that they risked baking thier warp coils at high
speeds. Perhaps even melting or vaporizing them. But that's me justt
making things up. They have never really said. I don't think they
will either. It would restrict their wiggle room in future stories.
MM> JPH> The Voyager (Darn them) supposedly was able to maintain a warp 9.975
MM> JPH> cruising speed. This annoys me.
MM>Well, that's according to the specs. They have made it big thing over
MM>the last couple of years as to what poor technical condition the ship is
MM>in. I doubt they could make this speed for long.
It amazes me how well the Voyager can repair herself, but you're
right. They've been silent on the issue of warp speeds and how fast
the Voyager is going recently. I imagine this is to give the writers
wiggle room without being too technically specific, but the effect is
that the Voyager is getting further and further behind schedule and
more and more lost.
One could tell some interesting stories about that, if one were of a
mind to.
MM>Nine? From 1906 to 3285 times the speed of light would be less than
MM>double the maximum rated speed.
Sorry. I was speaking of my assumed 1 light-year per day cruising
speed of warp 6 to a speed of Warp 9.975 as per Voyager's initial
non-binding technical babble.
From 392c to 3285c looks like more than a nine fold increase.
